This Is Women's Favorite Kind of Porn, According to Research. Agree?

No matter how open you are about sex, pornography can be a touchy subject (pun obviously intended). There's just so much out there, and your fantasies can skew wildly from what you're actually into in real life. Here's some proof: Whether straight or not, women looking for XXX entertainment are most satisfied by lesbian action, says a study by Buzzfeed and Pornhub. The write-up of the study is pretty detailed, so it's probably best to avoid reading it when you're at the office.

Statisticians at Pornhub gathered data about who was seeking what on their site with a focus on the perennial question: What the heck do women want? Apparently, given that women clicked lesbian videos the most, they really want to see other women having sex. In another result that could seem like a head-scratcher but makes sense when you think about it, women's second most-viewed pornography category was gay male. The "For Women" videos (you know, the ones that dream up elaborate story lines about how exactly the pizza man ended up on the bored housewife's couch) came in at a respectable fourth. As for what women actually searched for before they ended up clicking, "lesbian" won out again.

What's behind women's inclination to watch lesbian, or even gay male, porn before hitting the straight stuff? I think it's the simple fact that straight porn is made with men in mind. That turns the majority of it into an off-putting show complete with a muscle-bound dude, whimpering woman, and really pathetic bedroom moves. It just isn't believable that the second intercourse begins, the majority of the female population erupts into multiple orgasms. Especially since a lot of straight porn has nothing remotely resembling foreplay that's actually compatible with female anatomy! Watching completely unrealistic porn is a definite turn-off. Lesbian and gay porn, on the other hand, have the reputation of being more true to life.
This study reminds me of an exhibit about pornography that I saw a few months ago at the Museum of Sex. It was graphic but also undeniably fascinating. Part of it included a wall covered in a list of the most-searched pornography terms. As a love and sex writer, I figured I'd be pretty well-versed in a lot of them. Not quite. As we got toward the most obscure part of the list, I found myself guessing at what various phrases meant yet a bit nervous about actually googling them to find out. I left feeling slightly perturbed because some of it struck me as NSFL (Not Safe for Life), but also impressed that human sexuality is so fluid.
The bottom line is, whether you're into women touching women or something a little more uncommon, the digital world can deliver what you're looking for. You can explore solo to learn more about your sexuality, or enjoy with a partner if you're both feeling ready to get to know each other in a whole new way. When it comes down to it, watching pornography is an equal-opportunity activity!
Do these survey results surprise you? Or are you more like, "Uh, tell me something I didn't know?"
