This Is The Single Key to Effective, ZERO-Arguing Communication

"My advice is listen, listen, listen then count to three before you answer. Arguing is a waste of energy.  However,  meaningful conversation can be much  more positive"    -       Susan

This Is The Single Key to Effective, ZERO-Arguing Communication

Tool to improve communication: TWO people in the room, not ONE.

Do you have the courage to speak your "truth," as Voltaire called it, and to listen? This is not easy for many of us.
In fact, not long ago I was at a meeting where we as a group needed to make a decision. I had thought about the topic, did some research, spoke to some colleagues and was very clear about what we needed to do. I was convinced, hooked on being right and righteous.

I was so convinced I was "right" that I was struck with how closed off I was to listening to anyone in the group with a different point of view. Suddenly, I realised this position went against absolutely everything I believed in and know is true: that listening facilitates real communication and conversation.

I knew I wanted to make a shift. So with all my energy and strength I said to the group, “I have a very strong opinion on these issues AND from my heart and head I want to listen to your opinions.” What a lesson.

Often we forget that we are separate and have different opinions, different memories, and different perceptions of what actually happened, and there is no one right way. Even if you totally and absolutely know that you are "right,” all you know is your perspective. When you don’t allow the other their perspective, there is only one person in the room. There is no room for two, and communication is stopped, killed, deadened.

Here's an exercise, a first step that will strengthen your communication. The more we speak our truth and listen, the more we can have a conversation, and communication that grows and evolves us.

  1. Person A speaks her appreciations to Person B. B listens and doesn't interrupt. A gives concrete examples (e.g., "When I asked you to turn the computer off and you did, I really appreciated that."). Person A gives a concrete example for every appreciation.
  2. Person B speaks her appreciations to Person A. Again, very concrete examples. Person A listens, hopefully with head and heart, and does not interrupt.
  3. Person A speaks resentment, once again using concrete examples. Person B listens, no interruptions.
  4. Person B shares resentments while Person A listens.

Do this for a short period of time — three minutes each, maximum.
At first you are practicing speaking and listening. There is no responding.  When you have developed a muscle, you can respond if you want to after the other person has shared. No discussion, just a simple response.

This is a powerful step. In the end you do not have to agree. You may really disagree. However, if you’re listening with your head, heart and body, you will most likely be affected; you and the other will find your authentic way.

Although I’m focusing on conversations between and among people, this also applies to communication between different parts of ourselves. For example, when faced with a decision, it can sometimes feel like several voices are going off in your head. It’s valuable to listen to all of them, to not dismiss.

You can follow the same structure as in the exercise above to talk things out with yourself. Respect all of the voices, listen to each one, and you’ll find your authentic way.

How To Make Love To A Man So He'll NEVER Forget You

"Well ladies we have had the article on how we think the man should make love to us, so here is the article on  how we should make love to the man, to achieve max results!!

How To Make Love To A Man So He'll NEVER Forget You

There's a difference between making love and having sex.

You may be nervous at the thought of learning how to have amazing, passionate sex with a man, but you shouldn't be. In this guide, I'm going to show you exactly how to make love to a man in a way that is super easy and takes all the pressure off you. More importantly, you will learn how to truly enjoy this mind-blowing, emotional sex, too.

1. Be comfortable with him first! It is the only way you'll feel safe enough to let go.

By far the most important thing that you need to take care of before you start is making sure that you are totally comfortable with what's about to happen. If you have never had sex before, then you will understandably be nervous and hopefully a little excited.
However, if you aren't excited about making love or if you even have the smallest, niggling doubt, then hold off on sex with your man completely. You should never, ever feel pressured into getting intimate. While you may hope that he can just "read the signs" you need to also verbally express how you feel.
So before you attempt to make love to a man, make sure that you've found one that actually cares about you and respects you. I know this part is not exactly the most exciting, but the other important aspect of being comfortable is being safe.

2. Understand that it's not just sex — it's a connection on a deeper level.

There is an absolutely massive difference between learning how to make love to a man and just "knockin' boots".
Making love is about getting closer to your man and connecting with him, both physically and mentally. But just hooking up with a guy for the sake of it is completely different. Hooking up is more about lust and just getting off.
When you are making love with someone, you can go fast or slow, but you will always be paying attention to them. In many ways making love to a guy is a way to show him just how much you care about him. While it's obviously a bonus if you get off, you are going to be just as focused with making sure that he gets off too.
So if you really want to learn how to make love to a guy and connect with him, don't think so much about getting off as quickly as possible. Think more along the lines of slow, passionate grinding, caressing and embracing. But making love is not just about intercourse. There are a lot of other "loving" things that you can do to your man like massaging him, kissing him and even going down on him.

3. Skin-to-skin contact is crucial for intimacy.

Like I just said, learning how to make love to your man is about connecting with him. Ideally you want to connect with him on as many levels as possible — emotionally, physically and even spiritually. The best, simplest way to connect with him in all these ways is to make as much body contact with him as possible.
This is why positions like missionary, the coital alignment technique and spooning are perfect as both of your bodies are in almost full contact with each other.
But just lying on top of each other or beside each other is merely the tip of the iceberg when having sex. You can hold your man's hands and interlock fingers, or you can both physically embrace by putting your arms around each other and hugging each other.

4. Kissing intensifies your bond.

Another very important technique to use when figuring out how to make love to a man is kissing. I'm not talking about regular kissing techniques like a peck on the cheek, or using your tongue like a washing machine — I'm talking about kissing your man with passion.
So kiss your man with both intensity and tenderness. Slowly and gently suck on his lips with yours. Hold his head with your hands while you kiss him. Grab his hair. Bury your head in his neck as you kiss him. Kiss him in a way that shows him how you truly care about him.

5. Telling each other how you feel helps you understand and connect.

Disclaimer: This last tip is great if you have been dating each other for quite a while and both feel really strongly about each other. But if you have just started dating, then avoid using dirty talk until you know what you're both comfortable with.
While making love to your man, it can massively intensify things if you tell each other how you feel about each other. Letting him know how much you care about him and him doing the same to you is something that will really help you to connect more deeply.

3 Signs You're Not Depressed — You're Just Surrounded By Assh*les

"Its nots always easy to run away from everything or everyone in your life that has a damaging effect on you.  But you can take control and deal with it in whatever way is good for you, by turning the negatives into positives. Try it, use the power you have inside of you".    -  Susan

3 Signs You're Not Depressed — You're Just Surrounded By Assh*les

Don't worry, it's not you.

"Before you diagnose yourself with depression or low self-esteem, first make sure that you are not, in fact, just surrounded by assh*les." —William Gibson

When I saw this quote on a friend's Facebook wall, I laughed out loud with delight and recognition. It hit me on a subconscious level. Why did I like it so much? I couldn't tell you. It even seemed wrong that I, a psychologist, would like the idea of blaming depression on others. And then there was the swearing bit.
But I did like it — a lot. Enough to share it on my Facebook wall. And others liked it — a lot. And I started asking myself, what is going on here?
People clearly related to this quote just like I did. I started thinking of my own life experience. How many times did the behaviour of others effect how I felt about myself? How many times did I have to leave relationships because of the damage they were doing to my self-esteem?
The different ways people can be assh*les are infinite. Here three top qualities for assh*le-ness that pop for me.
1. Assholes are happy in their stupidity.
And by stupid I don't mean unintelligent. Not being smart all the time can't be helped. No one can know everything about everything. I know nothing about fly-fishing except that it looks pretty when it's done right. Would I assume to teach someone, anyone, about fly-fishing? No. But that doesn't stop the assh*le.
The assh*le is deliberately, obtusely dumb and happy in their stupidity. Knowing nothing about fly-fishing doesn't stop them from lecturing you as if they were a prize-winning angler.
2.  Assholes are loud and obnoxious.
Can an assh*le be quiet and shy? Maybe, but not in my experience. Most a-holes aren't interested in the give and take of conversation. They monologue, take-over, shout, get into your personal space, and don't even realize they're doing it. Or maybe they do it on purpose to intimidate. Either way, not nice.
3. Assholes are selfish bullies.
Selfish is NOT the same a self-caring. The assh*le is self-centered in a way that's exclusive. The feelings, thoughts, input or contribution of others is minimized, cast aside, even ridiculed, in order to pump up their own sense of self-worth. It's sad really, if it didn't come with the stupidity and the loudness.
So why do assh*les make us feel depressed? If we're exposed repeatedly to assh*les, they can wear on our self-esteem.
Most of us are reared to be nice. Being nice means listening to others, sharing a conversation, pointing out the other person's good qualities, and reasonably expecting the other person to reciprocate. We respect others' opinions even if they aren't shared. We generally defer to authority. Nice people are slow to anger and tend to emphasise the positive (for everyone else, anyway).
Assh*les, however, make us feel like dopes for being nice. At first we might get angry, and if the assh*le is someone we only see once in a while we can be angry and get over it quickly. But if they're someone we see everyday at work or school, maintaining anger is very difficult.
Eventually, our self-esteem begins to erode leading to feelings of hopelessness, fatigue, sadness and depression. That's right: chronic emotional abuse can indeed lead to diagnosable depression.
Where do we find assh*oles? You can find them everywhere: at school, socially in your circle of friends, at church, at work and in the family. And here's what you can do about them:
  1. Be honest with yourself. Give yourself permission to see the situation for what it is. Once you've identified that there's a person in your life who's harming you emotionally, you can begin the work of getting your self-esteem back.
  2. Take action. Taking action is what's important. Even if you can't change the relationship because the assh*le is your brother, you can still take action.
  3. Reduce your exposure. The action you choose to take may be to stop seeing that person, request a transfer to another office, or calling them less frequently. In extreme cases, you may decide you need to break up with them altogether.
  4. Put into place healthy self-care strategies. That means keeping an eye on your sleep, eating and exercise habits. Spend time with people (and animals) you can count on that make you feel good about yourself.
  5. Find a support system. Whether it's a therapist or a close friend, find someone who can help guide you through your assh*le recovery. If the damage done by assh*le exposure is deep, the journey to robust emotional health can be complicated. Be strong and get help.
Now that you know how to identify an assh*ole when you see them, it's time to pull yourself out of your feelings of depression and sadness, and live a life free of these toxic people.

      10 Commandments for Happy Relationships

"Definitely 10 Commandments to live by"       -       Susan

      10 Commandments for Happy Relationships

Love is not just about finding the right person, but creating the right relationship.  It’s not about how much love you have in the beginning, but how much love you build until the end.  A relationship should be healthy, caring, loving, kind, upbeat, and positive.  It should make your smile a little wider and your life a little brighter.
Happy, healthy personal relationships are one of the greatest joys of life.  So starting today, choose to take control of your relationship with your significant other.  Here are ten commandments to follow together.
You deserve to be with somebody who makes you smile – somebody who doesn’t take you for granted  somebody who won’t hurt you.

      I.  We will remember that every person and relationship is different.

People don’t fall in love with what makes you the same; they fall in love with what makes you different.  Be your imperfectly perfect self.  We are not perfect for everyone, we are only perfect for those select few people that really take the time to get to know us and love us for who we really are.  And to those select few, being our imperfectly perfect self is what they love most about us.
Don’t compare your relationship to anyone else’s – not your parent’s, friend’s, coworker’s, or that random couple whose relationship seems perfect.  Every couple makes their own love rules, love agreements, and love habits.  Just focus on you two, and making your relationship the best it can be.

II.  We will listen to each other openly, without judgment.

It’s far too easy to look at someone and make a snap judgment about them.  But you’d be amazed at the pain and tears a smile hides.  What a person shows to the public is only a small fraction of the iceberg hidden from sight.  And more often than not, it’s lined with cracks and scars that run all the way to the foundation of their soul.
Never judge.  Learn to respect and acknowledge the feelings of your significant other.  Pay close attention to them.  Be present.  We don’t always need advice.  Sometimes all we need is a hand to hold, an ear to listen, and a heart to understand.  There is a time to speak out and a time to remain silent.  True wisdom comes from knowing the difference.  And this difference can make or break a healthy relationship.
III.  We will say what we mean and mean what we say.
Share what is going on in your mind and heart.  Share your deepest thoughts, needs, wishes, hopes, and dreams.  Open communication and honesty is vital to healthy relationships.  Give the people in your life the information they need, rather than expecting them to know the unknowable.
Information is the grease that keeps the engine of communication running.  Start communicating clearly.  Don’t try to read other people’s minds, and don’t make other people, especially your significant other, try to read yours.

IV.  We will support each other through good times and bad.

Be there through the good, bad, happy, and sad times – no matter what.  Be willing to provide a listening ear, a hug, and emotional support in all circumstances.  Trust that you can count on each other, and be available not only when it’s convenient, but when you need each other the most.

      V.  We will be loyal.

True love and real friendship aren’t about being inseparable.  These relationships are about two people being true to each other even when they are separated.  When it comes to relationships, remaining faithful is never an option, but a priority.  Loyalty is everything.

VI.  We will live by the truth.

Inner peace is being able to rest at night knowing you haven’t used or taken advantage of anyone to get to where you are in life.  Lies run sprints, but the truth runs marathons.  Run a marathon.  Live so that when others think of fairness, integrity and reliability, they think of you.
VII.  We will spend quality time with each other.
Make time for each other.  With our busy schedules we often forget to relax and enjoy the great company we have.  In human relationships distance is not measured in miles, but in affection.  Two people can be right next to each other, yet miles apart.  So don’t ignore someone you care about, because lack of concern hurts more than angry words
Carve out special time for just the two of you once a week.  Do something fun.  Spend time together talking, going on dates, and making each other laugh.  Not only is it true that laughter is the best medicine, but it’s also true that shared laughter can make a good relationship great.

VIII.  We will appreciate each other and help each other grow.

Having an appreciation for how amazing your significant other is leads to good places – productive, fulfilling, peaceful places.  So be happy for them when they’re making progress.  Cheer for their victories.  Celebrate their accomplishments, and encourage their goals and ambitions.  Challenge them to be the best they can be.  And be thankful for their blessings, openly.

IX.  We will settle disputes peacefully.

Not much is worth fighting about.  Heated arguments are a waste of time.  If you can avoid it, don’t fight.  Step back from arguments with your loved ones.
When you feel anger surging up and you want to yell that vulgar remark on tip of your tongue, just close your mouth and walk away.  Don’t let your anger get the best of you.  You don’t have to be right or win an argument.  It just doesn’t matter that much.  Give yourself some time to calm down and then gently discuss the situation.

      X.  We will love and respect ourselves as individuals too.

Our first and last love is self-love.  Don’t rely on your significant other, or anyone else, for your happiness and self worth.  Only you can be responsible for that.  If you can’t love and respect yourself, no one else will be able to either.
Accept who you are completely – the good and the bad.  And make changes in your life as YOU see fit – not because you think anyone else wants you to be different, but because you know it’s the right thing to do, for you.
